Brighter Than The Sun--Colbie Caillat

Here's one I've been dying to learn.
Chords
a couple of the lyrics and chords are written incorrectly in this tab, but just copy this brilliant young lady and you'll be fine!

Whole wide world

Visiting my parents in Canada I've had a lot of downtime to practice my ukulele.
Here is a REALLY simple
Song to play. Whole wide world!

You probably know either the wreckless Eric the proclaimers or the will ferrel from stranger then fiction version.
Either way. 2 chords! You can either do E and A or F and Bb. I did the second version in my video.

YouTube Video

I like to finger pick The strings till the second round of the "chorus" pluck pattern in
Chord formation is 2,1,3&4,1
I did 2 versions experimented with the strum pattern in the second version

Meeting Info Update

Hey Ukuladies & Laddies!

A new breakdown for get togethers, The club will meet once a week, but every other week the focus will be for beginners, and the alternate week for intermediate (or slightly beyond beginners)

You're all encouraged to come every week if you can't get enough of Ukulele club, like me! but if you're finding that every week is too hard, then come on a week thats more geared to your playing level.

So TOMORROW will be for everyone but the songs will be intermediate level, so even if you're a beginner come out, challenge yourself!

I added Colby's songs to the playlist---> so practice these new ones.... I've learned a tonne more new ones too.

New Member John has some serious skill, I can't wait for everyone to meet him! see you there

For my Familele

Hello, all my ukulele friends. Yesterday our fearless leader and I had our own little jam session. We were teaching each other songs and she asked me to post some of the song I play with links, because all my songs are simple. Since I'm sitting at work for a few hours with nothing to do I thought I would do my best to comply with her request. Here are the songs I play:
"Anyone Else But You" by Moldy Peaches
"I'll Follow You Into the Dark" by Death Cab for Cutie
"The Way I Am" by Ingrid Michaelson
"Brown Eyed Girl" by Van Morrison
"Im Yours" by Jason Mraz
"Stand By Me" by Ben E King
"Fuck You" by Ceelo Green
"Hallelujah" by Leonard Coehn(written by)/Jeff Buckley(made famous by)/Beirut(ukulele version)
"Somewhere Over the Rainbow" by IZ

Anyone Else But You is the easiest song in the word to learn. Strum pattern I use is D-DU-UDU. It has two chords: G and C, that's it. It goes G D-DU-UDU X 2 then C D-DU-UDU X 2 for the whole song. here is a link to the tabs http://www.ukulele-tabs.com/uke-songs/moldy-peaches/anyone-else-but-you-uke-tab-16427.html. here is the video I used to learn

Way I Am has only 4 chords G-C-Em-D. I use a DDUUD strum pattern (i think). You can easily recognize the strum pattern from the video. She tell you the chords  for the verses and chorus in the description. Here is the video I used for this.

I'll Follow You Into the Dark is another D-DU-UDU strumming songs. The chords I got from ukulelehunt here is the link: http://ukulelehunt.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/05/iwillfollow.pdf. I play the verses: F D-DU-UDU X 2 Dm D-DU-UDU X 2 Bb D-DU-UDU X 2 then F D-DU-UDU C D-DU-UDU. The chorus I strum D-DU-UDU one per chord. I omit Fm7 and Dm7 through-out the whole song. I cant find the video I used, sorry :(

I have to go fly so I'll finish this when I get home. Sorry you all could make it and hope to see you all next week.

Like a Vag.

Ukuladies/laddies!

Sharee did update the blog from last weeks meeting but for some reason its not showing up on my computer. can anyone else see it/not see it? if not here's another update from last week, so if you can see both, awesome!

Tomorrows meeting January 31st  is going to be in the main lobby are of the Emergency Arts building, (near the zine Library)

Last week the group met at one of the members houses, we haven't decided if this is going to be a regular thing or not but for now the tentative plan is to alternate between houses and the Emergency Arts. So if you've never been to a meet make sure you come on a week that we're at the EA or you wont know where to go! :)

We practiced all our songs to date and added a new song last week. The famous rendition and medley of  Somewhere Over the Rainbow/What a Wonderful World  by Israel Kamakawiwo’ole.  A Classic every Uke player must have under their belt.

The link below also provides some great video instruction too. Pay special attention to the strumming pattern! Remember that little metaphor from last week if you're having trouble with your strumming. *wink*

Chords/insturction

I can't remember the other new song we learned... Ill make a note to start taking notes at the meetings!

Second Meet-up

Some Serious 'UkeFace' Going on here.
Last night (Jan 17th) No Ka Oi had its second get together, this time in the lounge area of the emergency arts building. With a new member (a ukuladdie!) and some spectators we needed a little more room to strum. It was great playing in public, with people walking around us smiling (cause who can't smile at a group of ukulele players!?)

We are getting really good at "we are gonna be friends" by the white stripes and the group decided it would be our go to song to play when we get new members because its easy. Also its super cute to sing a song about friendship together. For the Chords to this song, please see our first post.

New Songs
